Commodity Code Search

A commodity code is required for every item. For information about commodity codes, please see the LSU Purchasing website.

The commodity code is a five digit number. If the commodity code is known, it can be entered into the commodity field as displayed below in Figure 1.

Figure1:

If the commodity code is not known, the search can be used to find the correct commodity code.

Using the Search

To open the search, click the purple search link to the right of the commodity code field. This is shown in Figure 1.

The search will open in a separate window as shown in Figure 2.

Figure2:

*Note: If the computer is running a program to stop additional windows from opening on screen (example: PopUp Blocker), the search may be blocked by the program. Check the documentation of the program to see how you can avoid this problem. A common solution is to hold the Ctrl key while clicking the link. This may vary by program.

The commodity code search offers two ways to search for commodities.

Searching By Class

The first search option is By Class. The class is the first three digits of the commodity code. If this information is known, enter the first three digits in the By Class field and click the Search button. All commodity codes with a matching class will display. The results will display as shown in Figure 3 below.

Figure 3:

The class, subclass, and a description of the commodity will display. To select the commodity code and add it to the item on the requisition, simply click on the class of the commodity code. (The red arrow in Figure 3 points out the class field. The class is purple indicating it is a link.)

The search window will close and the commodity code will be added to the commodity field on the requisition.

Searching By Keyword

The second search option is by keyword. Using this option will search commodity code descriptions.

Enter the keyword to search for in the By Keyword field and click search. Every commodity code with that keyword contained in the description will appear in the results.

For example, if the keyword is House. The search results will contain commodity codes with HOUSE, HOUSEhold, wareHOUSE, etc.

If the keyword is warehouse, only those with warehouse in the description will display. House and household will not display.

The results will display as shown in Figure 4 below.

Figure4:

The class, subclass, and a description of the commodity will display. To select the commodity code and add it to the item on the requisition, simply click on the class of the commodity code. (The red arrow in Figure 3 points out the class field. The class is purple indicating it is a link.)

The search window will close and the commodity code will be added to the commodity field on the requisition.
